The Mid Island Truck & Equipment Association has its humble beginnings in December 2004 when a group of individuals got together and decided to standardize the trucking rate in the mid island area. The association was formally established in 2006. Shortly there after a volunteer executive/board of directors was elected and a regular meeting schedule was set.

A logo was designed in March 2006 and approved by all members at a general meeting. This logo is now used in all publications and can be seen in fellow members trucks and equipment on the window decals. In May 2006 an associate member program was introduced and an associate member representative was named to the board of directors.

The first association membership list was printed and circulated in June of 2006. A very successful MITE golf tournament was held in July of the same year which raised a $1,000.00 donation to a local charity.

In December 2006 the association members joined in with the downtown Santa Claus parade and hosted a separate truck/heavy equipment light up exhibition on the same evening. These two events in conjunction with the successful associate member toy/food tote program raised a large quantity of donations for another local charity during the holiday season.

The golf tournament, associate member toy/food tote program and the Show & Glow were once again successfully held again in 2007, with the 2008 Show & Glow being planned at present. The golf tournament was a success in 2008.

An awards program was established in 2007 contributing financial awards towards the education of students interested in pursuing a career in the transportation and construction industry. Four deserving students received the MITE student awards in 2008.

In 2008 the constitution and association by-laws were adopted and the association became legally registered in the province of BC and members are now eligible to join an extended health and dental insurance program, since late summer of 2008.

By fall of 2008 the membership had grown to 92 members, consisting of 20 associate members and 72 representatives from the local heavy construction/transportation industry.

In 2009 both of the associations yearly fundraisers were once again quite successful. The association expanded it's membership in the Parksville/Qualicum area and the September dinner meeting was held in Qualicum with a large turnout attending.

None of the above could have been achieved without the tireless efforts of the members who volunteered their time. Well done everyone!!!
