GOT LIGHTS?

Get your lights, decorate your truck(s) and/or equipment and come to the Mid Island Co-op Bowen Road location on Friday December 4th, 2009 and join us for the 4th Annual MITE Show & Glow.

This year's event will take place at the Co-op location only as the Nanaimo Parade has been changed to the following day at 11 am. All members of the association at invited to decorate your trucks and equipment and put on a lighted exhibit for the public. The past three years have been a success with people braving the weather to drop by and see the lights. The Co-op will provide a warm beverage and a tasty hot dog in exchange for a donation of a new un-wrapped toy, a non-parishable food donation or a cash donation. The collected donations will be forwarded to a local charity for further re-distribution to their clients during the holidays.

The event starts at 7pm however members participating are encouraged to begin to set up their displays between 5 pm and 6 pm. If you are unable to participate in the light up portion of the event, please mark the date on your calendars and drop by with the kids, have something to eat and drink, take a look at the displays, vote for your favorites, donate to a worthy cause and just have some plain old family holiday fun.

“Oh the weather outside was frightful...the heater was so delightful...the trucks had nowhere to go...let it snow, let it snow, let it snow…” ♪♪

In spite of the nasty blast of winter weather that halted most events in Nanaimo the evening of Friday December, 12, 2008, the MITE 3rd Annual Show & Glow was still held. Over 10 trucks participated and although attendance was down from previous years, those who braved the elements were impressed with the light displays.

Over $1,100.00 was raised for the Haven Society this year and several totes of food and toys were also dropped off at the Haven society this year for re-distribution to their clients who need assistance during the holiday season.

A huge THANK YOU to the Mid Island Co-Op for keeping us warm and well fed that evening.

Congratulations to DBL for winning the best MITE member display, to Berk’s Intertruck who won the best MITE associate member display and to DBL for winning people’s choice award.

Show & Glow
& the "Christmas for Kids" annual toy/food/cash fundraiser

** NOTE DATE CHANGE TO 12TH**

It's time to start planning for the 3rd Annual Show & Glow and start collecting donations of toys, canned food, and the gift thats fits all - cash.

In 2006 the members of the Mid Island Truck and Equipment Association collected an astounding amount of toys, food and cash and presented them to the Haven Society for re-distribution to their clients in time for the holidays.

In 2007 once again an early holiday present was given to the Haven Society and eased some of the stress placed on their clients during the holiday season. The association donated a further $1,000.00 cash donation to them as well for program development.

In 2008 we are hoping to exceed the past two years collections. There are several ways to donate to the drive. In early November collection totes are placed at several associate member locations for new toys and canned food. donations.

At the general membership dinner meeting on Monday November 24, 2008 at Alice's we welcome toy, food and cash donations. That evenings dinner meeting will be hosted by the Mid Island Co-op, the site of the Show & Glow on the night of Friday December 12, 2008. Donations will be collected the night of the Show & Glow and up until the 15th of December.

The Show & Glow has been held for the past two years and is quickly starting to gain popularity with the public. Members are encouraged to decorate their trucks and equipment and either join in the Nanaimo Santa Claus Parade downtown and be part of the light up parade back to the Co-op or provide a lighted up stationary display at the Co-op.

The lighted up heavy construction equipment and trucks delight the kids young and old alike. Come on out, have a hot dog and "hot chocolate", bring the kids and grandkids, bring a donation, vote for your favorite display and enjoy a family evening of socializing with your fellow members out of the truck.
